When Briarwood Christian School opened in 1964, it offered one kindergarten and one first-grade class and enrolled fewer than 40 students. Today, Briarwood has two campuses and 1,858 students, and just bought land adjacent to the high school in Shelby County for future expansion. "We hit a record enrollment this year," said Barrett Mosbacker, headmaster at the school. "Parents care about the culture and religious aspects that receiving a private education offer." Briarwood isn't the only private school growing in the Birmingham metro area. Several are expanding and have waiting lists to get in.
